Personality:
Rutile is a mineral comprised of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) with a hardness of 6. Common shades are red-brown, brown, yellow and ( record scratch— ) wait, wait, wrong character notes. Let's try this again...

Rutile is a gem with a mission. Serving as a doctor to the others in the fight against the Lunarians, they take their job quite seriously, nearly always found at their post in their makeshift clinic. Although they often chastise the other gems when they visit due to injury, it is obvious that these little lectures are due to concern for the others, and a desire for them to stay safe rather than coming to them in, well, pieces. Aside from putting all the kings horses and all the kings men back together again, they also make various poultices, powders and creams to help sustain life for their comrades, indicating that they're quite intelligent and talented, resourceful enough to gain good understanding for the lay of the land, and using nature to their advantage.

Dedicating their life to their duty, Rutile often forgoes sleep or refuses to rest when they feel they are on the verge of a breakthrough, or working on a task needs to be completed quickly. This can eventually lead to exhaustion and collapsing in random places on their part, which is also often... interrupted by the need for their skills. This is seen first hand when they lay down finally for a rest only to be interrupted by a "Rutileeeee" calling in the distance, causing them to twitch, obviously annoyed to be interrupted until the patient reveals themselves in person, and their usual quiet resolve takes over. "Perpetually overworked" would be an understatement, especially thanks to Phos certain gems in particular. They are calm under stress, quick-thinking and capable. They are far better at dealing with the crises of the other gems than their own. The same can be said for when it comes to being honest about their true feelings, when Phos reveals that they want to fight for the sake of their devotion to Sensei and asks for back up on their reasoning... Rutile turns away, apparently embarrassed by the prospect of such an affectionate confession.

Trustworthy and responsible, they take on a multitude of tasks to keep things running smoothly, such as going to sleep late or waking up early in the spring. They are more likely to take on a larger workload than to entrust or delegate things to others, often just saying they will "do it themselves" if any resistance is met. Everyone seems to have a lot of faith in their doctor and it could be argued that some even look up to them, believing them to be well-spoken, put-together and mature. Typically straight-faced and sarcastic, Rutile easily rolls with the punches and dishes right back whatever is given to them, often delivered with the driest tone in all the land. They take quiet joy in teasing others, highlighted in particular with their interactions with Yellow Diamond, throwing shade and getting themselves chased around the school as a result. Cutting remarks and quick-witted responses are just another form of affection, cracks in an otherwise even surface that hint at a more playful side. It has been said that they used to be quite cheeky in the past, examples like that above giving merit to such claims for those that may not remember such a time.

Sometimes called "quack" by the others, it is no secret that Rutile does express interest in various questionable methods, frequently expressing desire in taking things apart, and perhaps even relishing in it. This can be a relatively frightening trait as they take on a devilish grin and look to be enjoying the prospect of a dissection a little... too much, especially with a tell-tale snip, snip of their shears to drive the point home. Surprise check-ups with a hammer to the knee aren't out of question, and could even yield more accurate results, they might argue. Little eccentricities that could be considered actual masochism depending on the circumstances, though they would be completely un-bothered being called as much; just... don't question their medical authority, all right?

Regardless of some dubious decisions while on the clock, they are very steadfast and shrewd in their responsibilities and takes great pride in their role. Until they are able to cure a certain gem of their 'condition' they are not even sure they can be called doctor, revealing perhaps a look at how Rutile has insecurities of their own. Confident but cautious, they take risks when necessary, leading to many breakthroughs in the gems survival, but still falling short on their life's work, which they seem unable and unwilling to forgive them-self for. They have lived long, and with those years came wisdom that they try to impart on others, often giving advice or offering a different perspective in a situation. A wealth of information, they keep meticulous notes on all of their treatments and research, easily going back to them for reference hundreds of years later.

When it comes to their work ethic, there is an unparalleled attention to detail and unmatched patience in their undertakings coupled with a necessity to succeed... tireless passion that borders on being down-right obsessive. It is no secret that Rutile has long dedicated themselves to one obligation in particular, and they will stop at nothing until their goal is realized. Only in secret would they admit to their own failings, believing that success is the only way to "regain their worth." They are quite open and honest in what they hope to achieve, revealed in their notes that in the event that another gem had not woken for a long slumber, perhaps they could be used for "parts" instead. This cold-hard logic could be seen as heartless by some, but it is merely a means to an end when it comes to their "personal research."

Though it hasn't yet been touched upon in length, (#on-going canon problems... ) a Rutile of the past was perhaps much more outgoing, aggressive and hasty before the prolonged illness of their partner. One that acts before they think, on their own, and without thought to consequence. This side of them has the potential to emerge when under great stress or duress, though the situation would have to be extreme. It shows just how much they have changed to better discipline themselves in order to dedicate time to their ultimate task, saving Padparadscha. Arguably, everything they have done up until this point is in order to save that gem in particular... their partner from a time now long past. This dedication to their craft has worn on them over the years, blaming them-self for being unsuccessful in the endeavour so far, even leading to concern on behalf of the others that have been witness to what may be considered a fool's task for hundreds, or perhaps more like thousands of years.

Extra: It should be noted that Rutile's body is completely made up of the mineral of their namesake. When attacked or sustaining damage, the body part in question is likely to crack or shatter, needing to be put back together again, much unlike those flimsy organic bodies with their 'fluids' and their 'skin.' They also have no reason to breathe or eat, living off of the light of the sun and slowing at night (and in the winter)— none of these would have any particular advantage in-universe for the game, so if it's all right it would be neat to keep these little quirks intact for the duration of their stay.
